Best songs for Autumn even though it’s 80 degrees and October is over
As I have said many times before, the music that I listen too directly correlates to the current weather/season that we are in. Out of all the seasons my favorite music playing season has to be the Fall. For me the fall is the one time the weather is perfect (especially in the Midwest) and you're not around any holidays that saturate the current music being played like Christmas. The one argument for that would be Halloween but let's be honest you only listen to Monster Mash and Thriller on Halloween Day.
Below is a list of songs that I fully believe make the season of Autumn that much more enjoyable. I have to state that this is all personal preference but in my opinion, if you don’t like these songs then you should stop listening to music all together, or at least get yourself checked out.
Velvet Ring- Big thief
Big thief time and time again will supply you with songs that melt your ears. Their new track “Velvet Ring” takes that statement to another level. The acoustic guitar riff is one of the more comforting riffs that I have heard in a very long time. Singer Adrianne Lenker gives us an all time vocal song with her extremely soothing voice and I will continue to say that she is one of the current underappreciated lyricists that we have in music today. Personally the song just feels like fall to me and it felt cruel to leave something like that off the list.
Boys- Indigo de Souza
Indigo de Souza is a newer artist that I have had on my radar and let me tell you it has been almost impossible to get this song “Boys” out of my head. The perfect call synths in the background followed with very mellow percussion put you right into a leaf pile in a midwestern backyard. Her voice is very captivating as well and does give me a resemblance to Adrainne Lenker who was mentioned previously for the band Big Thief. Another very well composed track that gives you the perfect feeling of autumn.
Too Drunk to Drive - hey, nothing
I put this song on the list because I do feel that it is a very festive fall vibe but you could have put half of this groups discography on the list and it would have made it in my opinion. Hey, nothing hailing from Athens, Georgia is a refreshing type of folk that puts you right in the heart of your local apple orchard. I was just as surprised as anyone when I heard they were from the south but if they can release this kind of music every time they step in a booth then I could give a fuck what direction they are from. If you are a fan of folk music or any type of slower vibe then this group is going to be next up in the future. They have been on a monster run as of late and I cannot wait to hear what else they have in store for us.
Woodland- The Paper Kites
The paper kites have been a staple of the fall season for many years and this song will continue to stay on my list no matter how many years go by. Everytime I hear this song it just puts me the in the perfect mood for sweater weather. The acoustic and electric guitar that is in the song complement each other so well that you can not even notice the more pop production that is scattered throughout this track. The song itself if structured perfectly and tells a very good story that I think everyone should listen too at least once in their lifetime. This list would not be complete without a Paper Kites song so i had to put the best one that I knew.
Sage- Richty Mitch and the Coal miners
I feel like you can tell by some band names that it is just going to be good. For me, when I heard “Richy Mitch and the Coal Miners” I knew that they were going to be exactly what I needed before I even heard any songs by them. This song is another one of their very ethereal tracks that transcends you in a way. I heard them start to play and I get placed in the Oregan woodlands and I feel like a lot of the songs they make have that same sort of feeling to them. They have been a very popular band recently this kind of style of music and I do not see it ending anytime soon. As one of my current favorite bands, it was no question that they would be the ones to finish out my list.
